Biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) has global economic and environmental importance, but has often not been considered in soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] breeding programs. Knowing the genetic diversity and structure of a population within a germoplasm represent a key step for breeding programs. This study aimed at determining the structure of the population and diversity of soybean with regard to BNF and protein content in grain. In total, 191 accessions were evaluated, including 171 commercial soybean cultivars, developed and released by public institutions and private companies in Brazil, and 20 ancestral lines. The genotypes were chosen to represent four genetic groups: 128 Brazilian public genotypes, 20 exotic, and 43 genotypes from private companies. Soybeans were genotyped with 22 SSR markers, previously described as associated with BNF and protein content. Genetic diversity was evaluated using the DARwin 5.0 software. Population structure was inferred by principal component analysis and by the STRUCTURE software. The accessions were distributed in two groups: one clustering approximately 50 % of the accessions, from Brazilian public and private companies; the other one clustering 45 % of the accessions, including Brazilian, exotic and private germoplasms. Some accessions (5 %) were not grouped in any cluster. Principal component analysis explained 29 % of the total variance and there was a tendency to cluster the accessions into two groups. Similar results were obtained with the STRUCTURE, clearly showing two subpopulations. There is variability for BNF and protein content amongst both modern germoplasms cultivated in Brazil and ancestral lines. This variability could be better explored in soybean breeding programs to improve these traits. Objetivou-se com o trabalho avaliar valor nutritivo de silagens de capim Braquiária (Brachiaria decumbens) e de capim-Elefante (Pennisetum purpureum Schum.) com adição do pedúnculo de caju (Anacardium occidentale L.) desidratado (PCD). Foram utilizados silos experimentais de cano PVC em delineamento inteiramente casualizado com cinco níveis de adição do PCD (0; 5; 10; 15 e 20%), e quatro repetições. Trinta dias após a ensilagem os silos foram abertos e colhidas amostras das silagens de, aproximadamente, 300 g para determinação dos teores de matéria seca (MS), proteína bruta (PB), fibra em detergente neutro (FDN), fibra em detergente ácido (FDA), hemicelulose (HC) e valores de pH. O percentual mínimo de 30% de MS necessário para a predominância de fermentação lática foi alcançado com a adição de 14,09% de PCD nas silagens de capim Braquiária e de 13,84% nas silagens de capim Elefante. Os teores de PB também sofreram elevações, alcançando o nível mínimo de 7% PB, citado como ideal para o bom funcionamento ruminal, com 1% de adição do PCD nas silagens de capim Braquiária e com 5,06% nas silagens de capim Elefante. Os teores de FDA foram elevados em 0,70 e 0,30 pontos percentuais, respectivamente para as silagens de capim Braquiária e de Elefante, a cada 1% de adição PCD. Os valores de pH das silagens de capim Elefante mantiveram-se dentro da faixa adequada para silagens bem conservadas (3,8?4,2), porém nas silagens de Braquiária este comportamento não foi observado, encontrando para as mesmas o valor médio de pH de 5,01 unidades. The dry-matter minimum percentual of 30% necessary to lactic fermentation predominance was reached with 14.09% of DCA addition in Brachiaria grass silages and 13.84% in Elephant grass silages. The CP levels suffered elevations too, reached the minimum level of 7% CP, quote how ideal for a good ruminal functioning, with 1% of DCA addition in Brachiaria grass silages and 5.06% in Elephant grass silages. The FDA levels were reached in 0.70 and 0.30 percentual units, respectively to Brachiaria grass silages and Elephant grass silages, to each 1% of DCA addition. The pH values of Elephant grass silages remained within the ideal range for well-kept silages (3.8 ? 4.2), however in the Brachiaria grass silages this behavior was not observed, finding for them the medium pH value of 5.01 units.
