Kudzu is well known by several names like Kudzu, Kudazinila Teigi, Gmadhi Hulu and
Kudzu Vine. In India, this perennial legume was introduced in 1925 at the Imperial Agricul-
tural Research Institute, Pusa (Bihar). Haines (1925) reported from Purnea the occurance
of this legume in the flora of Bihar and Orissa. It is very useful as a fodder and green ma-
nure crop. As a fodder crop, its importance in India was highlighted by Dabadghao et al
(1945-52). Owing to its spreading nature and extensive root system, it is used for soil con-
servation onm slopes exceeding 2.5 per cent. Kudzu requires warm and humid weather
conditions that prevail during the monsoons which are conductive to its growth. |
