In this work a study of the symptoms of acceptation or rejection by the stallion, in relation to the follicular size (mm) (u=47, sd=5.2 and se=0.7) was realized. Close to 58% of the mares were of the Andalusian breed. All of the mares were serviced by Andalusian stallions during the season of 1998. It was taken into consideration the presence of the foal in the 55% of the cases and the waiting time (minutes) until the arrival of the stallion (u=7, sd=6, se=0.8). The following manifestation have been considered as signs of acceptation: fluttering of the vulva (73% of the cases); flux and quality of mucosity (38% lacked of it); turned and offered the croup (63%); it was observed that 51% of the mares urinate while with a mean of 3 times (sd=2.3, se=0.4); 58% incline offering the croup and a 66% vocalize. As signs of reactivity or rejection the following manifestations have been reported: thread of biting the stallion in 7% of the cases; gestures of threat by turning the ears (13%); charges (4%) and kicking, reaching or not the stallion (3 to 9%, respectively). This concludes that the mares inheat show themselves to be relaxed and very receptive to be mounted. |
