Abstract : Calves with naturally occurring Pre-Type II and Type II ostertagiasis were treated with tetrarnisole at dose rates of 12.5 and 20 mg. per kg. body-weight. Clinical signs associated with Type II disease disappeared at both dosage levels and the pH of the abomasal contents returned to normal. These changes were associated with a high degree of anthelmintic efficacy against adult Ostertagia ostertagi. Against inhibited 4th-stage O. ostertagi in both forms of the disease the efficiency of the drug was low indicating that, in the treatment of Type II ostertagiasis, tetramisole may have to be administered on more than one occasion. |
