Identification of those cattle genetics with superior feed efficiency is necessary to increase the productivity of the entire beef industry. The aim of this study was to investigate metabolites profiling in the liver and muscle to identify physiological changes in animals in the livestock system with low or high residual feed intake. Liver and muscle were collected after slaughter from Nellore males, with high and low residual feed intake (H-RFI, n = 10 and L-RFI, n = 10, respectively). Metabolites were extracted with cold methanol/water solution (4:3 v/v). Metabolomics analyses were performed by 1D 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance. Metabolites were identified using Chenomx and analysed using MetaboAnalyst 4.0. The residual feed intake classification did not change most of animal performance traits; however, animals with lower residual feed intake presented greater carcass dressing, lower carcass fat deposition. Sixty-three compounds were identified in the liver and 31 in muscle. Coexpression network analysis was carried out and identified four metabolite network modules correlated with the phenotypic traits, indicating common metabolites with a variate important projection score that influences residual feed intake. Metabolites in liver samples was correlated with energy and protein metabolism and on muscle with fat metabolism. Differences on energetic metabolism, including of carbohydrate- and fat-correlated compounds, according to residual feed intake can be assessed by importance of concentration of citrate, isocitrate, glucose-6-phosphate, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide + hydrogen and creatine phosphate (in liver) and choline, glycine, glycerol, malonate, glucose-6- phosphate and 3-hydroxybutyrate (in muscle). O presente trabalho objetivou avaliar efeitos heteróticos em híbridos experimentais de melancia. O ensaio foi conduzido na base física da Embrapa Rondônia, em Machadinho do Oeste-RO. Empregou-se o delineamento de blocos casualizados, com três repetições e parcelas de sete plantas. Os tratamentos consistiram de linhagens F5: 1=Cpafro 34.305.3065, 2=Cpafro 74.105.1136 e 3=Cpafro 45.202.3106; das cultivares: 4=Charleston Gray, 5=Sugar Baby e 6=Omaru Yamato; e de nove híbridos. Avaliaram-se: número de frutos por planta (NFP); peso de fruto (PMF); teor de sólidos solúveis (TSS); diâmetro longitudinal do fruto (DLF) e espessura da casca na região peduncular (ECP). A heterose foi estimada em relação à média dos pais (HMP) e em relação à cultivar Crimson Sweet (HCP). Em média, os genótipos apresentaram baixo NFP (1,59 frutos/planta). A HMP variou de -30,43% (3x4) a 112,70% (1x4). A variação da HCP foi de -30,43% (2x4 e 3x4) a 56,53 (3x5). O PMF de todos os genótipos foi baixo (2,98 kg). Observaram-se a menor e a maior HMP em 1x4 (2,87) e 2x4 (83,28%), respectivamente. Quanto à HCP, o híbrido 3x4 foi o mais heterótico (51,00%). Com relação a TSS, a média dos genótipos foi de 8,9 obrix. A HMP variou de -13,35% (2x5) a 18,61% (1x4). Em relação à cultivar padrão, verificaram-se valores de heterose de -7,60% (1x6) a 10,27% (1x4). Charleston Gray e seus híbridos apresentaram maior DLF e a maior HMP foi observada em 2x6 (27,73%). Verificou-se maior HCP em 1x4 (36,49%). A maioria das cultivares e o híbrido 3x5 apresentaram baixo ECP e as menores e maiores heteroses (HMP e HCP) foram verificadas em 3x5 e 2x4, respectivamente. O híbrido Cpafro 34.305.3065 x Charleston Gray apresentou os efeitos heteróticos mais satisfatórios, sendo, portanto o mais promissor para exploração comercial.
