The F1 of genetically diverse cross was heterotic for most of the characters and correlations were studied among thirteen quantitative characters in the F2 generation. Grain yield strong positive association with pod weight, number of pods/plant, number of clusters/plant, seeds/pod length. Path analvsis in F2 showed that the pod weight had the highest positive direct effect on vield and followed by plant height and number of clusters/plant. Pod length, number of pods/plant and seeds/pod showed negative direct effect on vield. Pod weight/plant can be used as reliable parameter for yield in cowpea. |
