This paper summarises the experience of introducing SDL for the development of distributed applications, based on object-oriented execution platforms. Firstly, the life cycle model used in the OTELSO* project is described. In this project, an architectural decomposition has been defined, in such a way that each of the components is developed separately using different technologies. The use of SDL[1] in the design of some of these components offers some advantages in testing and prototyping tasks. The use of this methodology in the development of a specific prototype system in the context of Intelligent Network Services has permitted the evaluation of different alternatives for the integration of SDL-developed components onto distributed execution platforms. This work has also contributed to identify the requirements that the SDL development tools must cover in order to facilitate such integration. |
