The enforcement of standards for foods is not new to the New Zeland Department of Health and for many years this has been a routine activity. The types of enforcement involved have been basic items such as: minimum and maximum compositional requirements excess preservative in food insufficient meat content in sausages minced meat containing added colour, antioxidants and preservatives milk and milk products deficient in fat illegal addition of colour and preservatives to a range of foods and presence of foreign matter. This has recently been extended to breaches of date-marking require-ments. |
