Cattley guava is a native fruit of Brazil, of the Myrtaceae family with interesting farming perspective, mainly due to its good fruit quality and exotic flavor. This work aim to evaluate the effect of shading cattley guava stock plant (Psidium cattleyanum Sabine) on the propagation by cuttings. Half the cutttings of atock plant growth during 60 days under shade cloth giving 0, 30, 50 or 70% shade, were treated with 200 ppm of indolbutiric acid (IBA) for 16 hours; the other half, no trrrrreated of IBA. The cuttings were rooted under intermittent mist for 85 days. Stock plant shading innnncreased percent rooting and root counts and decreased cutting diameter. The number of roots per cuttings decreased and root length increased with IBA trreatment, but was not affected by shade level of stock plant. The mean number of roots per cuttings with IBA trreatment was of 6,0 roots, but this nean the roots per cuttings without IBA trreatment was of 13,3 roots. The decrease of cuttings diameter is correlated with rooting endogenous potential, because the diameter minor results in greatest percent rooting and number of roots per cutting, without necessity of treatment with exogenous auxin. |
