La legumineuse tropicale Sesbsnia rostrata possede a la fois des nodules racinaires et des nodules caulinaires fixateurs d'azote. L'infection de la tige de S.rostrata par les Rhizobium specifiques a lieu au niveau de sites de nodulation predetermines et debute par une invasion intercellulaire des Rhizobium suivie du developpements de cordons d'infection. La fixation d'azote par S.rostrata peut atteindre 200kg d'azote fixe par hectare en 50 jpurs. La nodulation caulinaire et la fixation d'azote ne sont inhibees par l'azote combine du sol. La souche de Rhizobium de tige ORS571 est la seule souche de Rhizobium actuellement connue capable de croitre aux depens de l'azote moleculaire. Cette propriete a permis de developper une analyse genetique de la fixation d'azote de la souche ORS571 par isolement de mutants Nif-. |
