The aim of this research was to evaluate the effect of trickle irrigation using a treated
domestic effluent upon the growth and development of gerbera, cultivated in a greenhouse, in the region of Teresina, PI, Brazil. The completely randomized experimental design, with treatments and five replications was used. These treatments had wastewater volumes which were differently treated, combined with the application of chemical fertilizers (Urea and Potassium chloride), The following were used: TI - 100% chemical fertilization; TII - 25% chemical fertilization associated with treatments 75% of treated effluent; TIII - 50% chemical fertilization associated with 50% of a treated
effluent; TIV - 75% chemical fertilization associated with 25% of a treated effluent; and TV - 100% of a treated effluent application. The observations concerning plant growth parameters such as, total vase leaf number (TVLN), tiller height, along with young and adult leaf height, were collected weekly. Regarding the VTLN, the TIII resulted in obtained the highest average compared to the others, possibly due to elevated temperatures along with a greater percentile of N and K2O, combined with the
salt already in the sewer water which favored greater growth. The foliar development of effluents irrigated gerbera in TV was less than the others because the nutritional need was not supplied. However, it satisfactorily presented plants for multiple seedling production, and cut flowers for commercialization in July and August.
