Wheat blast, caused by Pyricularia oryzae Triticum (PoT) lineage, is a major constraint to wheat production, mainly in the tropics of Brazil where severe epidemics have been more frequent. We analyzed disease and wheat yield data from uniform field trials conducted during nine years (2012 to 2020) in order to assess whether the percent control and yield response were influenced by fungicide type, region (tropical or subtropical), and year. Six treatments were selected, all evaluated in at least 19 trials. Two ungicides were applied as solo active ingredients: MANCozeb, and TEBUconazole, and four were premixes: AZOXystrobin + TEBU, TriFLoXystrobin + PROThioconazole, TFLX + TEBU, and PYRAclostrobin + EPOXiconazole. Percent control, calculated from back- ransforming estimates by a meta-analysis network model fitted to the log of the means, ranged from 43 to 58%, with all but PYRA + EPOX showing efficacy greater than 52% on average, not differing among them. The variation in both efficacy and yield response was explained by region and all but TEBU performed better in the subtropics Than in the tropics. Yield response from using three sequential sprays was around two times
greater in the subtropics (319 to 532 kg/ha) than in the tropics (149 to 241.3 kg/ha). No significant decline in fungicide efficacy or yield response was observed in nine years of study for any of the fungicides. Our results reinforce the need to improve control by adopting an integrated management approach in the tropics given the poorer performance and lower profitability, especially for the premixes, than in the subtropics. RESUMO - O tratamento de sementes de soja com fungicidas e a inoculação com Bradyrhizobiumjaponicum, antes da semeadura , são práticas recomendadas pela pesquisa e que vêm sendo utilizadas por um número cada vez maior de sojicultores. O volume de sementes tratadas que, na safra 1992/93, não atingia 5% da área semeada, foi de 54%, na safra 95/96 (EMBRAPA - Soja, CONAB - MAA). Deste modo, os produtores de sementes e cooperativas estão demandando informações sobre a viabilidade técnica do tratamento das sementes antes do período de armazenamento, para a comercialização de sementes já tratadas. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi o de avaliar o efeito do tratamento de sementes antes do armazenamento sobre as qualidades fisiológica e sanitária de soja. Lotes de 300 sacos da cultivar CAC-1 foram tratados comercialmente na sede da Sementes GRIMM LTDA, em São Gabriel do Oeste, MS, onde permaneceram armazenados até janeiro/97 . Para o tratamento , foi utilizada uma máquina de tratar sementes marca GRAZMEC (Não-Me-Toque, RS) e os fungicidas e doses dos produtos comerciais/100kg de sementes foram: carboxin+thiram (Vrtavax - Thiram 200 SC/250ml), thiabendazole (Tecto 100/250g) e thiabendazole+thiram (Tecto 100 (150g)+Vetran (170g)). Sementes sem tratamento representaram a testemunha. Mensalmente, de setembro/96 a janeiro/97 , amostras foram coletadas e enviadas à EMBRAPA - Soja, Londrina, PR, para as análises de germinação padrão (rolo de papel/ 25ºC), emergência em areia e sanidade (método do papel de filtro, 22ºC/sete dias). Não houve efeito negativo do tratamento sobre a qualidade da semente durante e após o período de armazenamento . A germinação das sementes, tratadas ou não, manteve-se em torno de 86% até janeiro/97 . A emergência em areia, significativamente inferior nas sementes não tratadas (setembro a novembro/96) , não diferiu das tratadas, nos meses de dezembro/96 e janeiro/97 . Assim , foi demonstrada a viabilidade técnica do tratamento de sementes de soja antes do armazenamento . Todavia, a adoção dessa prática requer precaução, uma vez que os lotes tratados e não comercializados não poderão ser armazenados para a safra seguinte, representando assim prejuízos, uma vez que sementes tratadas são impróprias para o consumo.
