The author studies the tineas of the domestic animals in Sao Paulo, (Brazil). After some general statements about the dermatophytic spewcies which he had the opportunity to observe during the lapse of four years, in which he studied systematically 320 cases of human tineas, he detains himself in the appreciation of the species of undoubted animal origin (Microsporon felineum, M. lanosum, Trichophyton gypseum asteroides, T. granulosum), and those of probable animal origin (T. lacticolor, T. rosaceum, T. cerebriforme). He concludes this first part by showing the double interest, practical and doctrinal, of the study of the tineas that infest animals. Then follows a detailed study of the Microsporiae produced by M.felineum and lanosum. The human tineas are more frequent in sao Paulo as Microsporiae (127 cases in 320), and of these, athat caused by M. felineum predominates nearly exclusively (121 in 127). The author had the opportunity to observe 6 cases of Microsporia produced by M. felineum, 5 in the cat and 1 in the dog; and one case of Microsporia produced by M. lanosum in the dog. The descriptive study of the animal lesions is followed by a minute study of the affected hair and the scales, of the parasites in different cultures, of the botanical development of the parasite in hanging drops, and of the experimental lesions in huinea pigs. |
