Abstract: In the last years, several efforts have been made to identify the genetic basis of feed efficiency traits in broilers, resulting in the discovery of genomic regions that control these traits. However, due to the complex and polygenic nature of traits such as feed conversion (FC), many regions of small effect have not yet been identified. Thus, the aim of this study was identify new regions and candidate genes associated with FC in broilers. For this purpose, 1,433 chickens from the expansion of a paternal broiler line were genotyped with the Affymetrix® Axiom® HD 600 K array. The genome-wide association study was performed using the Qxpak 5.0 software with two models, one considering the additive effect and the other testing the additive+dominance effects of the SNPs. In this study, 26 genomic regions were associated with the FC trait considering both models, being 25 regions associated suggestively (P = 5x10- 5), and one associated significantly (P = 2x10-6) using the additive+dominance model. In these associated regions, 16 candidate genes were identified as being involved in the regulation of FC in broilers, and having a role in biological processes related to the hypothalamus. Finally, in this study it was possible to identify genomic regions not previously described for FC, as well as new candidate genes involved in the genetic control of this trait.
