In spite of its high cost, glyphosate is becoming one of the 1981 leading herbicides in the citrus orchards of Spain. This phenomenon is probably due to its broad spectrum of control, including perennials and C.D.A. application adaptability. Nevertheless, its weed control is sometimes erratic and even in certain conditions citrus phytotoxicity may occur. In order to overcome some of the above mentioned problems, several trials using mixtures of herbicides, acids and fertilizers were made either in the field or in growth chambers. The chemicals used were the following: U27267, diuron, simazime, 2,4-D, Silvex, oxadiazon, oxyfluorfen, citric acid, oxalic acid, sulphuric acid and the ammonium sulphate fertilizer. The advantages or disadvantages of these treatmentsare considered. |
