In this work we endeavor to examine factors that influence the choice of research problems by agricultural scientists. Put simply: Why do agricultural scientists do what they do? At first glance it would appear that the answer is abvious. Indeed, when we originally raised the question we were told that "everybody knows that scientists do whatever they can to get funding for." In addtion, we heard that "they do what`s easy" and "they do whatever will produce lots of publications". The "obvious" character of all these replies shows how easily and quickly a plausible rationale is established. |
