The granitic soils with the greatest fertilizer requirement are those supporting grassy wood-
land and the poorer types of layered sclerophyll forest, which are similar to grassy wood-
land in appearance. Fertilizers containing phosphorus, copper, potassium, zinc, calcium, and occasionally sulphur are required. Soil copper levels are apparently adequate under melaleuca vegetation association and the general status of all elements appears to improve as the proportion of mesophyll species increase. In the past these granitic soils have been considered of little commercial value despite the fact that they receive possibly
the highest and more reliable rainfall in Australia. Now it has been found that with due at-
tention to plant nutrient requirements higly productive pastures can be grown. |
