Tolerance to SCN is now recognized as a potential management tactic for increasing soybean yields on SCN-infested land. When used in a rotation scheme, a tolerant-susceptible cultivar will relieve the selection pressure on SCN imposed by a resistant cultivar while reducing the risk of yields losses in fields with a low infestation of SCN. Furthermore, because tolerance in soybean is race independent and also has been shown to be effective against other nematode species, yields of tolerant cultivars should be more stable than those of intolerant cultivars in fields with different frequencies of SCN genotypes or mistures of different nematode species parasitic on soybean. A capacity for enhanced root growth during nematode infection and a deep rooting habit arecharacteristics of SCN-tolerant soybean. Improving the level of tolerance in future soybean cultivars will increase the utility of tolerance as a SCN management tactic. |

The common bean cultivar BRS FC409 has high-quality seeds of the commercial group carioca and increased iron, zinc and protein contents. It produces mean yields of 2,048 kg ha-1, can potentially reach 3,755 kg ha-1 and is resistant to fusarium wilt, curtobacterium wilt, anthracnose, common bacterial blight and angular leaf spot. |
