Records on 314 Gaddi, 51 Rambouillet and 35 Russian Merino half-breds from Tal farm of Himachal Pradesh [India] showed that the effect due to transferrin type was significant on fleece yield and that of Hb type on average fiber diameter. The effect of sex was significant on fleece weight, average fiber diameter and staple length. Russian Merion half-breds were superior in fleece weight, and the Rambouillet half-breds were significantly superior in fiber diameter and fleece density. Gaddi had longer staple length. Apparently, an efficient genotype can be established if the half-breds of both exotic breeds are crossed to produce the new strain, which will have all the needed wool-quality traits. |
