Abstract : Carcass data are tabulated for 79 Muzaffarnagri and 15 Corriedale X Muzaffarnagri male lambs slaughtered at 30 kg live weight or 9 mth of age over a 2-yr period. There were no significant differences between genotypes in live weight or age at slaughter, dressing percentage, eye-muscle area, or the proportions of various wholesale cuts. Year of lambing had a significant effect on dressing percentage and the proportions of breast and loin. Season of lambing has a significant effect on the proportions of breast, loin and flank. Estimates of h2 for eye-muscle area and the proportions of shoulder and breast were 0.17 plus or minus 0.29, 0.66 plus or minus 0.47 and 0.70 plus or minus 0.48 resp. Phenotypic and genetic correlations between carcass traits are tabulated. |
