Least-square analysis of variance was used to study the pre-weaning growth up to the 13th wk in Muzaffarnagri and its crosses with Dorset and Suffolk breeds of sheep. Transferrin types Hb types, breed groups, seasons, sex and dam's age at lambing were considered as fixed effects, and dam's weight at lambing and gestation period of dam as regressions. The effect of transferrin types was highly significant at all ages except at birth. Sheep of transferrin type AB had highest weight at all ages. The Dorset and Suffolk cross-bred lambs were significantly heavier than Muzaffarnagri lambs at all ages. The Dorset lambs were heavier than Suffolk cross-breds at all ages, but the difference was significant at the 4th wk. The effect of seasons was highly significant at all ages. Sex effect was significant at birth and at the 4th wk. There was no effect of Hb types on body weight of lambs. Effect of dam's age at lambing was significant at birth. The regressions of body weight on dam's weight at lambing and gestation period of dam were highly significant at all ages. |
