The extent of heterosis in 100 F1 hybrids and inbreeding depression from F1 to F2 generation in 77 crosses were studied for seven characters in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.). The values of heterosis over better parent were 66.23 per cent for 1000-seed weight, 69.89 per cent for seed yield, 64.65 percent for head diameter, 23.17 per cent for oil content, 18.47 per cent for number of leaves and -7.69 for days to flowering. Positive inbreeding depression was 68.71 per cent head diameter, 67.60 per cent for seed yield, 58.98 per cent for 1000-seed weight, 50.00 per cent, for plant height, 39.61 per cent for oil content, 27.11 per cent for number of leaves and 9.96 per cent for days to flowering. It was also suggested that the crosses, EC 82362-1 x EC 68414, EC97409 x EC 69874, EC 98302 x EC 101495, EC 98 98327 x EC 101495, EC 101577 x Sunrise, EC 102621 x Sunrise, IS 355 x EC 68413 and IS 355 x EC 68414 with minimum depression from F1 to F2 generation could be exploited while developing synthetic populations. |

Contrasting coastal ecosystems, dune and restinga, in Peró Beach, Cabo Frio, State of Rio de Janeiro altered the correlations between the spatial patterns of the Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal (AMF) and the diversity of plants. We recorded, during rainy and dry seasons in 2014, a total of 35 plant species. Ipomoea imperati, Stenotaphrum secundatum, Hydrocotyle bonariensis and Remirea maritima were the most common. Higher plant species richness was found in restinga over dune in both seasons. Considering that coastal environments occupy large areas around the world, we consider that the AMF-plant relationships evidenced here may contribute to conservation of these environments; |
