The effects of -casein alleles A, B1, B2, B4, E and F on performances of Poitevine goats were estimated using data from 614 goats (1704 lactations) in 8 herds recorded between 1988 and 1995. The herd, year, lactation number and casein genotype were statistically significant for the all studied variables. For true protein content, weighted contrats indicate that and a significant superiority over the B2 and B4 alleles. The A and B1 alleles have a favorable effect on fat content and an unfavorable effect on milk yield but and fat yield. The B1 allele, highly frequent in the Poitevine breed, should be considered in the genetic conservation program of this breed. |
