In this article the author deals with Forest Policy and tells what is decided and what is done by the State of S.Paulo Government and what is convinient to establish and to do in order to preserve the remaining natural forests and increase reforestation. Initially, it is pointed out the disparaty of the South region, particularly of Sao Paulo. All the nation has 42% of its total area covered with forests while the mentioned region has only 2% of forest land. Next, he analyses the forest devastation, explains its causes, the observed figures and its effects which he considers highly damaging to the country economy. The factors that may contribute to stop devastation are discussed and to minimize their effects the author indicates some steps on the fields of legislation, fiscalization, economics, agriculture nomadism restraint and better forest products utilization. The most important part of the work is that related with forest reestablishment, and what can still be done about the protection forests, which are essential for its benefitial effects on water, climate and soil. Commercial forests establishment is analysed by the author who reports what has been done on Eucalyptus plantations and informs that 487,000 hectares of the State of Sao Paulo (1,97%of its total area) is planted with 1,217,000,000trees of very useful Australian species.
