Huanglongbing (HLB) is the most important disease associated with citrus production in Brazil and in other parts of the world. Embrapa and Centro de Citricultura Sylvio Moreira, facilitated by ARS-Embrapa Labex US and Embrapa Labex France, are convinced that the challenges posed by the HLB menace require that efforts and resources must be coordinated toward common goals and developing joint research projects that combine competencies and infrastructures. The Brazilian HLB Research Consortium consists of a network that involves universities, state research institutions, federal agency for plant protection and quarantine and 15 Embrapa research centers located in the main citrus production areas in Brazil. USDA-ARS, University of Florida and CIRAD are connected to the consortium network through research projects funded by Embrapa and FAPESP. Presently, joint research proposals have been developed and plans are under way to consolidate collaborations with other institutions in South America and INTA, Argentina, Embrapa and Centro de Citricultura Sylvio Moreira are planning a joint training program at graduate level to be launched in May 2009. |
